What we collect, and what we don't.

Never Miss The Memo is run by Dan Lewis. When this page says "we" or "us" it means me. You can reach me at dan@thecommsstack.com with any privacy question, including a request to see, change, or delete data we have about you.

What we collect, and why

1. Your lesson progress

As you go through lessons, the site saves your progress — which lessons you've completed, your quiz answers, the text you've typed into the assignment boxes, your draft certificate name — to your browser's local storage. Most of this stays on your device only; we don't have a copy of your quiz answers, assignment text, or certificate name.

The one exception: if you're signed in (which happens automatically after you buy), the list of which lessons you've completed is also saved to our database. We use it to see overall how far learners get through the course, and so your progress can follow you across devices. It's tied to your email and we don't share it.

If you're not signed in and you clear your browser's site data, that progress is gone and doesn't follow you to another device.

2. Your email (if you give it to us)

At one point during the free lessons, we ask for your first name and email so we can send you occasional updates about the course. Giving it is optional — you can skip and keep using the site.

If you submit it, your name and email are sent to Resend, the email service we use, and added to our audience there. We use it to:

• Send you a welcome email and an occasional course update.
• Email you if there's a meaningful change to these terms or the privacy policy.
• Reply to you if you write in.

Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. Click it and you're off the list.

3. Your purchase (if you buy)

When you click Buy, you're handed off to Stripe's secure checkout. Stripe collects:

• Your name and email address.
• Your billing address (for tax purposes — Stripe Tax requires it).
• Your payment card details — which never touch our server.

After a successful payment, Stripe tells us your name, email, the amount paid, and a transaction ID so we can issue receipts and refunds. We use that information for:

• Sending you a receipt.
• Honoring refunds within 30 days.
• Tax and accounting records (we're legally required to keep these for several years).
• Replying to you if you email about your purchase.

4. Basic server logs

Like almost every website, our web server (HostPapa) records standard request logs — the time of the request, the page requested, the rough response time, and an IP address. We use these only to debug the site when something breaks. They're rotated and deleted after a short period.

5. Anonymous usage analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is doing as a whole — how many people visit, where they roughly come from, which pages they read, and how they move from the landing page through the free lesson to a purchase. This helps us see what's working and what to improve.

Google Analytics sets cookies and collects usage data such as your device type, browser, approximate location (from your IP address — Google does not share the full IP with us), and the pages you view. We see this only as grouped, aggregate numbers — not tied to your name. This is measurement, not advertising: we don't use it to target ads to you.

You can opt out of Google Analytics on every site by installing Google's opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser. Google's own handling of this data is described at policies.google.com/privacy.

What we don't do

• We don't run third-party advertising trackers (no Facebook Pixel, no Google Ads tags).
• We don't sell or rent your email address.
• We don't share your information with anyone for marketing.
• We don't use your assignment text or quiz answers for anything other than your own learning.
• We don't use your data to train AI models.

Cookies and similar things

We use local storage, a browser feature, to save your progress through the lessons. That's how the dashboard remembers what you've finished. We also keep a sign-in cookie if you log in, so you stay signed in.

Google Analytics sets its own cookies to measure traffic (see the analytics section above). We don't run advertising cookies or cross-site ad trackers. Stripe and Resend may set their own cookies on their own pages during checkout or email tracking — those are governed by their privacy policies.

Who else sees your information

We use a small set of trusted third-party services to run the site. Each of them sees only the data they need to do their job:

• HostPapa — hosts the website and serves the pages. They see standard server logs.
• Stripe — handles checkout and stores payment details. See stripe.com/privacy.
• Resend — sends and stores the email list. See resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
• Google Analytics — measures site traffic in aggregate. See policies.google.com/privacy, or opt out with Google's add-on.
• Google Fonts — serves the typefaces. Browsers fetch fonts directly from Google's servers.

Your choices

You're in control of your information. You can:

• See what we have. Email dan@thecommsstack.com and I'll send you a copy.
• Correct something. Same email — tell me what's wrong and I'll fix it.
• Delete your data. Same email. I'll remove you from the email list and delete what I have. (I have to keep purchase records for tax/accounting — but I'll de-identify what I can.)
• Wipe your local progress. The dashboard has a "Reset progress" option, or you can clear this site's data in your browser's settings.
• Unsubscribe from emails. Click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send.

Kids

The course is aimed at college students and early-career adults. It isn't designed for children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, email me and I'll remove the account.

If we ever change this policy

If we update this page in a meaningful way, the "Last updated" date at the top will change, and anyone on our email list will get a note. Small wording fixes won't trigger a notification.
